Time Tracking Kiosk
The kiosk is a time tracking package built for Spur that makes it easy for hourly workers to track punches accurately. The kiosk syncs with the Spur mobile app and workplace web application to provide workers and workplaces with all time related details.
The Problem
Spur’s existing kiosk was a web application launched from the workplace’s portal. Workplace managers were able to open the kiosk on any device they chose which caused touch issues or scaling issues on certain devices.
To clock-in or out, workers first needed to scroll through a list of workers at that location to find their profile. Once selected, the worker would input a four digit PIN which matched the last four digits of the worker’s SSN.
Primary issues we discovered while visiting customer sites were that managers often weren’t aware that they had access to a kiosk application or, workers often exited out of the application from the device it was opened on. This resulted in very low engagement for the tool.

This is the first project that I was able to pitch, lead, and see through to release as a product owner. I was also able to build out the designs and workflows.
Design & Technology
We decided to build a Progressive Web App that would feel like a native app to our users. To provide the best experience for our workers, we proposed building a hardware package that included a high quality mount and tablet. Workplaces and installers are given ADA standards for mount placement and recommendations for placement.
The workflow for punching was updated to prevent workers from scrolling through a long list of other workers. We updated the PINs to unique six digit codes to allow for numerous variations and to ensure the numbers were easy to remember. We also added worker PINs to their mobile app in case they had trouble recalling it.
Visuals were kept minimal to match the updated branding and to create a cohesive visual style across all apps.
The Process
This project started after discovering kiosk misuse or lack of use while visiting customer sites. Many workplaces were enforcing multiple methods to clocking such as paper sign in sheets, mobile devices, and a kiosk.
